How you can help…
01
Door Knocking
The most important thing a volunteer can do is show up at a neighbor’s door and have a real conversation. Not a script. Not a sales pitch. A conversation about water pressure, flooded streets, and what it means to have someone at the commission table who actually lives here. We’ll give you the training, the turf, and the talking points. You bring the conviction. District 1 is built on neighborhoods. We win it the same way.
02
Phone Banking
You don’t need to be a professional. You need a phone and twenty minutes. We’ll give you a list of registered voters in the district and a simple script to get the conversation started. Most calls are short. Some turn into real exchanges about what matters to people in Ruskin, Apollo Beach, and Sun City Center. Every voter we reach is one more person who knows there’s a real choice on the ballot — not just the incumbent and an empty line.
03
Yard Sign Deployment
Yard signs don’t win elections. But a neighborhood full of them tells every driver on U.S. 41 that something is moving. We need volunteers to deliver signs to supporters, stake them on approved corners, and track what’s up and what needs replacing. If you’ve got a truck and an hour on a Saturday morning, you can put the Vote Butherus name in front of thousands of commuters. Keep it Florida, Man — start with your own front yard.
04
Spread the Word on Socials
Follow us at Vote Butherus, share, comment, repost. If you believe in what this campaign is fighting for — the aquifer, the bay, the roads, the neighborhoods that didn’t ask for the concrete tide — say so publicly. Tag us. Share the blog posts. Post a photo with a yard sign. Clip a quote you agreed with and put it on your story. Word of mouth is the oldest form of campaigning, and social media is just word of mouth at scale. Every share reaches someone we couldn’t reach ourselves.
05
Networking at Events
Farmers markets. Fishing tournaments. Community festivals. Anywhere people gather in District 1 is a place to have a conversation about this race. We need volunteers to staff a table, hand out literature, answer questions, and collect contact info from people who want to stay connected. You don’t need to be a political veteran. You need to know why you care about this race — and be willing to say it out loud to a stranger.
06
Work Behind the Lines
Not everyone knocks doors. Some of the most valuable volunteers are the ones who never leave their kitchen table. We need people who can help update voter contact lists, track outreach data, draft emails, manage the volunteer schedule, and keep the operation organized as the campaign accelerates toward August. If you have skills in spreadsheets, writing, logistics, or just keeping things from falling through the cracks, we need you. Every field campaign runs on the people you never see.
